Tar Hollow 2009

Tar Hollow '09 was an adventure for sure. It's hard to believe another year is over... and the fact that Tar Hollow pretty much officially marks the end of the youth group summer makes it even harder to believe. This year 13 of the youth made the trek to Tar Hollow State Park for our annual week at camp. Tar Hollow is such an odd place, filled with so many memories and traditions. It could be said that if you have never spent a week at Tar Hollow you can't really understand it. That's probably pretty accurate.

Tar Hollow was great again this year and we learned a lot from all of the speakers, especially Dani Tietjen who was an amazing keynoter. We laughed a lot from... well, pretty much everything. We ate a lot, we didn't sleep a lot, some of us showered a lot, some of us smelled a lot, but we it was a great week! If you weren't able to join us for camp this year, make sure to mark the 2nd week in August for camp next year.

Here are some pictures from our week... I uploaded a lot of them, so any kind of putting them in order would be... well, too complicated. Instead I will label them for your enjoyment! Here goes....

Bobby is definitely paying attention during discussion group. NOT. (Glad to see he is easily distracted everywhere and not just when I am speaking!)Some people play in the staff soccer game, some people cheer them on... some people go and get dressed for it and then stand around on the sidelines pretending to be on the team (yeah Meg and Carly! Way to pretend!)

These people actually cheered for the team! Thanks for the encouragement (only if you were cheering for the staff!)

Alison and Charlotte LOVE TAR HOLLOW.

Alison loves electives... especially electives taught by Carly, right Alison??!
Meg helped serve communion on Friday morning at the lake.

Actually yes, pretty much the entire Tar Hollow Choir was made up of Sulphur Grove kids... we do love to sing, no doubt about that!

Justin pays close attention to the morning announcements. Thanks Justin!

Kelsey and Bobby sang together at Cabaret. Nice!

The SG choir reprised their showing from Louisiana (and added some members)... once again they stole the show!

Ukelele Idol Elective- See... I told you you have to be there to understand.

Kelsey loves the knitting elective... yep, teenagers knitting.
And again, you have to be there to understand!

Abby lost an arm when the croc got her.... during staff hop. Tar Hollow Swamp...
Rachel enjoying some after lunch singing.

Campfire.... nice.

Cullen enjoying the resurrection of waterfront from years past.

Charlotte during morning watch... maybe she learned this meditative method from Pastor Kim's sermon series on prayer....
Fog on the lake in the morning....Tar Hollow is definitely a beautiful place!

Heading to the Green Cathedral for morning worship on Sunday. The Green Cathedral is ALWAYS a good place to spend some time.

Becky... oh my goodness... Becky is not covering her face in this picture AND she is knitting!
Emma chillin on the bridge to the girls hill.

Meg and Abby doing staff electives... BANANAGRAMS ARE AMAZING.

Jennifer washed cars for her elective... thanks Jen!

Justin and Alison on the bridge.

Oh Tar Hollow... another year of memories.... beautiful.
